After seeing a very strange and unknown supposed work by Michelangelo, you will reach the Uffizi: the most important museum in Florence, very interesting to see even from outside because decorated with statues dedicated to the famous Tuscan people in history. Here you will learn how not only artists, but also navigators, politicians and scientist of the past contributed to make Tuscany such an important place.
You will reach the river Arno to walk on the most famous bridge of Florence, Ponte Vecchio, with his glittering shop windows, where you will take beautiful pictures. Back to the Northern part of the city, you won’t miss one of the most touristy places: the Loggia del Porcellino, with the fountain where tourists use to toss coins. The next building you will see is a church, even though it was built to be something different. You will get inside to see a gorgeous Gothic tabernacle and will see the first ever Renaissance statue, made by Donatello.
Next stop is in Piazza della Repubblica, a symbol of the Italian reunification (1861), before reaching the final stage of the tour, Piazza del Duomo. Here you will be amazed at the dimensions of the Cathedral and the Baptistery. The Duomo will be described from both outside and inside, where you will see the largest fresco ever made.
The tour will end here, unless you added the Michelangelo’s David option. If this is the case, you will reach the Accademia Gallery with your guide. After collecting your skip-the-line tickets, you will visit the museum to see the original Michelangelo’s David. The guide will introduce the life of Michelangelo, showing you his beautiful unfinished statues, and will tell you all the details about the history, the techniques, the historical context and the hidden meaning of David, right in front of the giant wonderful statue.

- This is a walking tour, the distance to walk is about 1.5 Km (slightly less than one mile). For who adds the Accademia, the walking distance is about 2 Km (about 1.25 miles). We recommend to wear comfortable shoes.
- Most of the tour occurs outside. It is recommended to have a hat in sunny days and an umbrella for rainy days. A short umbrella is preferable, if you add the Accademia option.
- The Duomo and any other church in Florence have a dressing code to respect. Make sure your knees and shoulders are covered, or can be covered with shawls, or you won’t be able to follow your group inside.
- Groups with a guide have a privileged access to the Duomo, but depending on the number of groups waiting to enter and on the checks made by the Duomo staff on the dressing code, it may take up to 10 minutes to enter the church.
For who decides to add the Michelangelo’s David option, here are further things to know and rules to respect:

Inferno Tour overview
Follow the journey of Robert Langdon in Florence and see some of the most beautiful attractions in Florence.
We start from Porta Romana, where Langdon and Sienna try to enter the ancient city to reach Palazzo Vecchio, finding out that police is everywhere. We will replicate the rush through the Boboli Gardens, but in a relaxed way, admiring the magnificent fountains and the architecture of the Pitti Palace, until we get to the Large Grotto, where Langdon and Sienna were almost caught.
We will see the entrance to the Vasari Corridor, before leaving the gardens to walk in the streets of Florence, following the path of the Corridor from outside and visiting the church of Santa Felicita, which worked as the Medici parish church after they moved to the Pitti Palace.
We will walk through Ponte Vecchio, surmounted by the Vasari Corridor, and we will see the Uffizi building from outside. After a break for lunch, we will resume our pursue in Palazzo Vecchio, the main stage of the book (and film), visiting the apartments of Cosimo de Medici, but also the magnificent Hall of the 500. We will hunt for the message “cerca trova” (seek and you shall find) left by Giorgio Vasari in the Battle of Marciano fresco, and we’ll see the Death Mask of Dante Alighieri.
After leaving Palazzo Vecchio, we will walk in the Medieval alleys that lead to Dante’s church. Here, Langdon discovers the next clue, in the poem by Dante Alighieri. We will then reach the Gates of Paradise, the gorgeous doors of Florence Baptistery, admiring the Cathedral and Brunelleschi’s Dome. We will get inside the Duomo, to see a famous portrait of Dante Alighieri, and then we’ll get inside the Baptistery, to see where Langdon finally found the missing Death Mask.

In the early 16th century, a member of the House of Medici was elected Pope Leo X; after his death, his cousin Giulio was elected Pope Clement VII. The Medici Popes paved the way to the former bankers to become a dynasty: Dukes of Florence and then Grand Dukes of Tuscany, the Medici dominated the region until 1737.
Since 1540, the Medici Dukes lived in Palazzo Vecchio, the ancient town hall, symbol of the political power in Florence. Here is where our tour starts, with the apartments of Cosimo de Medici and Eleonora di Toledo, the Duchesse. The apartments were decorated by Giorgio Vasari and his workshop, together with the huge Hall of the 500, to celebrate Cosimo and his family. We will also see the Studiolo di Francesco I, the heir of Cosimo, who was more interested in science and alchemy than in politics. Not all of the rooms in Palazzo Vecchio were changed by the Medici Dukes, some of them still have the original decoration of when Florence was a free Republic, we’ll have a chance to see the room from where Machiavelli worked as chancellor and also the death mask of Dante Alighieri, the most famous Italian poet.
With a short walk, we will then reach the Medici Chapels, where lie the bodies of the Medici Dukes. This amazing museum features the magnificent Chapel of the Princes, decorated by mosaics of semiprecious stones, something you won’t see anywhere else but in Florence, but also the tombs of Lorenzo and Giuliano de Medici in the New Sacristy, a room designed by Michelangelo which contains seven statues by the master of sculpture. You will hear the story of Michelangelo hiding from the Medici family, after helping the Republic of Florence to resist against the return of the rulers.

This tour combines Medici Bankers and Medici Dukes for a full day comprehensive tour on the history of the Medici family.
Thanks to their wealthy banking activity, the House of Medici became the richest and most powerful family in Italy. Later on, they also dominated the holy city of Rome, with two Popes in the early 16th century. The Medici Popes paved the way to the family to become a dynasty: Dukes of Florence and then Grand Dukes of Tuscany, the Medici dominated Florence until 1737.
Full Day Medici tour starts at the San Marco Museum, once a Dominican convent built with the exclusive sponsorship of the Medici Bank. We will discover the architecture designed by Michelozzo and the collection of Renaissance paintings and frescoes by Fra Angelico, a friar who embraced the new trend in arts, leading to the dramatic evolution of religious art. You will hear the story of Antonino Pierozzi, the friar who dared to take position against Cosimo the Elder, but also the story of Girolamo Savonarola, the friar who ruled Florence after the fall of the wealthy bankers.

Full day Michelangelo Tour overview
This tour allows you to have a full day immersion in the life and works of Michelangelo.
Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) is considered the father and master of all arts. Sculptor, architect, painter and poet, the Florentine artist raised the Renaissance to its highest point. Most of his works are split between Rome and Florence, this tour dives into the life and works of Michelangelo visiting all the main attractions related to the master artist.
We start the tour in Piazza San Lorenzo, in the heart of the Medici, to speak of the young Michelangelo and visit the Medici Chapels. You will get to know why the statues do not resemble the real aspect of Lorenzo and Giuliano de Medici and what Michelangelo actually intended to represent.
The second stage of the tour features the most famous statue in the world: Michelangelo’s David. In the Accademia Gallery we will analyze the unique sculptural technique of Michelangelo through the unfinished Slaves. You will be told the story of how Michelangelo created his masterpiece from a low quality block of marble, how he reacted to criticism and how the statue was destined to a totally different location, analyzing the different symbology of this David compared to the earlier statues we’ll see later at the Bargello Museum. In the ancient Bargello Palace (1255), you will be told about how the building was a prison, where people was tortured and condemned to death. We will see where Michelangelo comes from, through the works by Donatello and Andrea del Verrocchio, discovering how David was a symbol of Florence well before Michelangelo dealt with his huge statue. We will then admire some of his early masterpieces and you will get to know the incredible way the young artist earned a prestigious commission in Rome and the hidden symbology behind his portrait of Brutus, probably related to a member of the Medici family.
We finish the first part of the tour in Piazza Santa Croce, filled with typical restaurants, for a lunch break.
Santa Croce district is one of the ancient four quarters of the Medieval Florence. Once a swamp, often flooded by the river Arno, it became the base for the Franciscan friars that arrived in Florence in the 13th century. The construction of the Basilica and the beautiful square started in 1294 when Florence was the largest town in Europe. Santa Croce is also the district of Michelangelo, and we will visit Casa Buonarroti, his home, a museum displaying some of the very first works of the master artist, like the Madonna Della Scala and the Battle of the Centaurs, made by a teenager Michelangelo at the service of Lorenzo the Magnificent.
We then move back to Piazza Santa Croce, the rectangular square, to speak about the curiosities of this place, like the fact it has been used (and still is) to play historical football games. Finally we will visit the Basilica di Santa Croce, known as the temple of Italian glories. Inside, you’ll see the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, Niccolò Machiavelli, Gioacchino Rossini and more illustrious Italians. The church is filled with frescoes, mainly by Giotto and his followers, the pioneers that paved the way for the Renaissance. You will discover how Giorgio Vasari restructured the church after the Catholic counter-reformation, and you will see sculptures by Donatello, glazed terracotta by Luca Della Robbia and altarpieces by Bronzino. The sacristy features the symbol of the damage Florence suffered in the 1966 flood, a painted cross by Cimabue, and you will hear a story about the “Angels of Mud”.
Out in the courtyard of Santa Croce stands a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture: the Pazzi Chapel by Filippo Brunelleschi. You will relax sitting on the benches of the Chapel while your guide tells you about the Pazzi conspiracy, the plot to kill the members of the Medici family.
Finally, we’ll visit the refectory of the convent, where is the most ancient Last Supper fresco in Florence.
